Necromancy, And The Bible’s Explicit Prohibition

Do not turn to spirit-mediums or sorcerers; don’t seek them out, to be defiled by them; I am Adonai your God

(Leviticus 19:31).

Tarot card readings. Psychics. Ouija boards is called necromancy which means to communicate with the dead and it is prohibited in the Kingdom. The list of spiritual antics including horoscopes all share a common objective: encouraging people to place hope and find peace in spirits, and other sources other than God.

Most people engage into these spiritual antics for entertainment while many believe these actions are harmless. The Scriptures clearly states these things are prohibited and can put us in grave spiritual danger. Many Christians don’t realize that the Bible explicitly prohibits Believers from engaging in necromancy. We are prohibited from practicing divination or seek omens (Leviticus 19:26), not to turn to mediums or seek out spirits (Leviticus 19:31), and not to consult with the dead.

These verses are warnings that a person will be defiled by such practices. Despite these biblical prohibitions– culture encourages, facilities and celebrate these attempts to communicate with the dead, especially on a day like today. Halloween gives people the opportunity to have gatherings, pop out the Ouija board and beckon the dead.

Surely, the Kingdom of darkness has power too. We see that when Pharaoh beckoned his magicians and sorcerers and threw down his rod and it became a serpent. But what happened? Moses serpent consumed Pharaohs’ serpent (Exodus 7). This displayed the Kingship of God, He is the Lord, great and mighty! The Devil has power, but God’s power is GREATER!! When one continues to read through the Scriptures will find these types of stories. For instance, Acts 16 talks about a slave girl who is described as having in her a snake-spirit that enabled her to predict the future. This woman followed Paul around for days until finally he turned around and said to the spirit, “in the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” The Scripture says, and the spirit did come out, at that very moment.

Today, I want to warn you against provoking darkness, it’s nothing to play with. Something wicked could get upon you and mess you up for the rest of your life, dabbling in necromancy could lead to possession, especially with those who engage in witchcraft, calling upon spirits and so forth, engaging in demonic activity and literally opening themselves up for darkness to invade their lives. Let’s avoid engaging in demonic activities, but most importantly live our lives daily for Jesus and go to Him for answers, who is TRUTH and find comfort and peace that only He can provide!

As a person living with a disability challenge is part of my life. I struggled with my identity and I recognize that I still have insecurities to face, but that doesn't mean I can't walk in everything God has purposed me to walk in despite my insecurities. Because of the nature of my condition and physical disability, God's grace is evident in my life everyday and I find strength in the word of God that says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through him who gives me power". (CJB).
